So, you’ve heard of essential oils and how amazing they can be, but you don’t know where to start? That is exactly how I felt when I first start using these magical liquids. But don’t worry, I am here to ease your mind and share with you the top 5 essential oils everyone should have in their wellness toolbox!
Essential oils are a naturally occurring oil in plants. When these oils are correctly obtained and produced to sell they can be extremely beneficial to our bodies and overall life. When purchasing essential oils, you want to ALWAYS make sure you are buying from a company that ensures their oils are 100% pure and natural and without any perfumes or fillers. If you don’t, essential oils could possibly be more harmful to your body than they are good. So before using them (especially topically or internally),always, always, alwaysmake sure you know where they are sourced from. I use Young Living because I know they have a “Seed-to-Seal” promise with all of their products!
Essential Oils for Beginners
Lavender– this is one of the most talked about oils in the wellness world and it’s all for good reason! It is an oil everyone should have in their wellness toolbox! There are MANY uses for Lavender, the most common one being to help promote a good night’s rest and relaxation. Not only is Lavender great for your night time routine it is also very nourishing to your skin! Add in a few drops to your favorite face and body moisturizer and your skin will thank you. If you’re buying high quality essential oils, like Young Living, then Lavender is even amazing in your tea, simply add one drop to your tea bag and enjoy! Other uses include helping to prevent a healthy scalp, bug bite and sunburn relief, and adding a few drops to your bubble bath for a spa-like feel!
Peppermint– oh the amazing things Peppermint can do! Peppermint is great for nausea, digestion, headaches, sore muscles, and even great to add into your favorite brownie recipe for a sweet, minty treat! Peppermint is something I always have on hand to support my digestion and freshen my breath. Also, spiders HATE Peppermint so a few drops on a cotton ball placed in the corner of your room will rid of any pesky critters lurking around!
Citrus oils (Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, etc..)– any and ALL citrus essential oils are my favorite. I can’t just pick one because you really can’t go wrong with them! Citrus oils are great oils to have on hand because you can add them to your water to enhance the flavor, they naturally sanitize surfaces, and their scent is SO uplifting it is impossible to be in bad mood when citrus oils are diffusing.
Frankincense– a high end oil but something I believe everyone should have on hand. This oil is amazing for your skin! Pair it with Lavender essential oil and your skin will love you forever! This is a very calming and grounding oil. It promotes calmness, tranquility, and is awesome to use in a meditation or yoga practice!
Cedarwood– this oil is definitely underrated but it has so many amazing benefits! Cedarwood is absolutely amazing for your hair. It promotes healthy hair growth (getting rid of any hair loss!) and heals a dry scalp. It also is an amazing oil to diffuse when it’s time to hit the hay because it makes you sleep like a baby, especially paired with Lavender! Cedarwood also has antiseptic properties and can even be nourishing to your skin. This oil is very grounding and can help you relax.
