2017: A Year of Growth, Change, and Magic

2017: A Year of Growth,

Change, and Magic

You know the meme, or picture (I am the worst millennial ever for not know what is what these days) that reads “2016: the caterpillar 2017: the cocoon 2018: the butterfly”? Well that is exactly how I feel entering this new year. And clearly, by the amount of times I’ve seen that picture, I am not the only one.

There’s been a lot of change, growth, and experiences I’ve gone through but also many memories that have left a special place in my heart. And while you should know by now, I love writing about it so I figured there’s no better way to reflect on this past year than doing it on the blog!

Originally going into 2017 I feel like, looking back, I had very big expectations for what the year was going to hold. It’s not to say amazing things did not happen but they were experiences I didn’t see coming. Last year was the year my fiancé and I packed up all of our belongings and moved across the country to Montana (see my Montana post for more details!). I think I had such big expectations because well, we were moving somewhere new! We had a lot planned. Little did I know that 2017 was going to be the year I grounded down into myself to find what I desired and who I wanted to become.

You see, Montana is NOT the place I want to live forever (a post on this later!) but it holds some kind of magic in it that I know is right for me right now. Maybe because it is still fairly new and there’s a lot left to explore or maybe because it just is. 2017 was the year I discovered my true passions in life, what some would say their “calling”. And while I always thought I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my life, I never felt so sure until this last year.

Going back to that quote I mentioned in the beginning, and to put my emphasis on it, 2016, the caterpillar, I was just living life. I was truly happy for the first time in my whole life but I was just living with no set plan, serious goal, or true care in the world. And while that may seem like the ideal life (and you can still live that way with a set plan/goal in mind), it wasn’t for me. Fats forward to 2017, the cocoon. As I said before, this was the year where I grounded down into the roots of who I am. To transform into my fullest potential. Insert this year, 2018, the butterfly. Everyone will interpret this differently, but this is the year for me to take everything I have been brewing and brainstorming (for myself and life) and watch it all come to fruition.

I have high hopes for this new year but at the same time I know not to have any crazy, wild, or out-of-this-world, expectations because that sets myself up for failure. Instead I have a lot I am looking forward to and going into 2018 with an open mind.
