What screams “it’s the holidays” more than hot chocolate?! Nothing! My favorite (new) tradition is drinking hot cocoa with my fiancé while we decorate the Christmas tree and listen to Christmas music. Most hot chocolate mixes you purchase in the store aren’t gluten or dairy free, not to mention they’re filled with sugar and chemicals, so I make my own! And this holiday season I want to share it with all of you!
This recipe is super simple and quick to make. It’s gluten free, paleo, and vegan!
Homemade Hot Cocoa
*makes 1 serving*
3 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
1 cup of full fat coconut milk (unsweetened)
½ cup of water
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of organic pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
In a medium sauce pan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, add cacao powder and stir. Make sure you stir it until it is completely dissolved to ensure your hot chocolate doesn’t come out chunky.
Add cinnamon and maple syrup to hot mixture, stir.
Add in coconut milk and vanilla. Stir. Or use a milk frother to make it even creamier and foamy!
*Adjust water and coconut milk ratio to make it either more or less creamy.
