Happy Fri-YAY, friends! Today is a very exciting day on my blog because I am sharing my first EVER interview! This interview is with one of my best friends, soul sister, dog lover, and fitness obsessed, Kaili Meyer!
So a little background on how Kaili and I met—we met through Instagram and the rest is history. BYE. But REALLY. Around 3 (ish) years ago Kaili and I followed one another on good ole Instagram because of our mutual passion for fitness. Soon comments on photos turned into direct messages which then turned into texts, FaceTime calls, and eventually meeting in person for the first time ever!
It is super crazy, looking back, to think one of my best friends is someone I met through social media. Kaili is living proof of why I do what I do; I love to share and connect! And I can’t wait for you guys to get to know her as well!
This girl is the most down to earth woman I have ever met and she isn’t afraid to be herself and speak up. She’s got a contagious smile and one of a kind personality. Other than loving health and fitness, she LOVES dogs. She enjoys writing and always has the best ideas up her sleeve. I was also lucky enough to be able to publish one of her pieces she wrote! (It will be under ‘Lifestyle’ —> “What To Do When You Don’t Know What You’re Doing”).
But enough of me talking, let’s read what she has to say!
*After you are done reading her interview, make sure to head back to ‘Lifestyle’ and read her piece titled “What To Do When You Don’t Know What You’re Doing”.*
1. Can you tell readers about yourself/your blog/and what you do?
My name is Kaili, but most people call me Kails. I obsess over glazed donuts, puppies who have way too much fur, and squats. I write – it’s what I do. My blog is all about the adventure of life, food, fitness, random thoughts, and travel. My words are scattered about much like my brain, ha-ha. But really … is it snack time yet?
2. How did you get into blogging and what made you want to share your content with the public?
I got into blogging when I was 19-years-old. Honestly, I spent so much of my free time writing I figured, why not share it with the world? I didn’t really think anyone would read, besides my parents and maybe my roommates when I forced them to. I’m re-vamping it right now and coming out with some more useful content. So, stay tuned!
3. I know you are super passionate about fitness and living a balanced lifestyle, so what would you say sparked that passion?
I was always super into sports. Soccer, volleyball, running … what the heck was I thinking? I have a strict Cardi-NO motto now. I went through some disordered eating in high school and really struggled with my body image. Then when I got to college I thought I understood what “health and fitness” were – boy was I wrong. I spent hours at the gym, obsessed over my food, and literally read every single “fit blog” out there. I had absolutely no balance, until it hit me – this isn’t fun. Isn’t health supposed to be fun? That’s when my lifestyle changed and I decided it was time to focus on my mental health and start fueling my body instead of starving it, and loving what I saw in the mirror. I realized that yeah, it’s cool to have a fit bod, but it’s way cooler to have a strong able body.
4. What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in the gym/trying to become a healthier individual?
Keep going! The beginning is rough. You’ll probably change your goals a million times. You’ll feel silly and like you have no idea what you’re doing. Don’t worry – it gets easier. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and leave your pride at the door. Oh, and carbs aren’t the enemy! Eat the damn cookie.
5. If you had to pick one (character) trait to describe yourself what would it be and why?
If I had to pick one word to describe myself, it would be adventurous. I LOVE adventure. Whether it’s bungee jumping in the Australian rainforest, skydiving over Arches National Park in Utah, or trying cow tongue tacos (don’t do it) – where the thrill goes, I’ll follow.
6. What is one thing you want anyone who is reading this to know?
You are beautiful and you are worth it. It’s so easy to get swept up in negativity and feel like you’re nothing compared to everyone else. Guess what? IT’S WRONG. You rock.
7. Lastly, where can my readers find you for more inspiration and helpful tips? (social media name/blog name/etc)
